The good ‘ol movie theatre background might be elegant at first, but could get a bit boring after a while. Why not set your Background Image to display your company logo, or perhaps a photo of the grandchildren? It’s fairly simple to accomplish and doesn’t require much technical knowledge at all, just a little bit of photo editing skills perhaps.
CREATING CUSTOM BACKGROUND IMAGES FOR XBMC
Step 1: Create a 1280×720 background image in JPEG format using Adobe Photoshop or your favourite design application. It would be wise to keep the primary section of the image above the top half of the graphic.

Step 2: Save the Image to your Desktop, name it bg.jpg preferably. For Apple TV or iOS Devices: we suggest saving it to theĀ /private/var/mobile/Applications folder.

Step 3: Launch XBMC and navigate to the “Settings” submenu under the “SYSTEM” main menu link.

Step 4: Go to the “Skin” option on the menu located on the Left Side of the page.

Step 5: Navigate down to the “Background Customizer” submenu on the Left Side of the Page and then choose the “Single Image” option.

Step 6: Your screen should look similar to the one below. Now, select the “Desktop” folder or wherever you saved the image to in Step 2.

Step 7: You’ll now want to choose the bg.jpg file or whichever image file you’d like to set.

Step 8: Continue to set different background for each of the different tabs listed under the “Edit Background for Media Type” option, as you wish.

Step 9: Once you’re finished, return to the main menu and view your beautiful custom XBMC background image.

Congratulations! After a few tries we’re sure you’ll be a super XBMC backgrounder lol. Enjoy bringing your custom configuration to life.

It’s worth noting, at least for ATV2 users, that you should make sure the image is about the same filesize as the others. The bigger the image filesize is the longer it will take to display when you highlight over the menu item on the home screen. Simply compressing or bringing down the resolution fixes the issue.
