Install the First End User Release of XBMC for Android in Seconds

It’s been months now that our friends at XBMC for Android have been releasing nightly updates for the Android platform. We’re now very excited to announce that they have finally released a very complete and feature filled version of XBMC for Android which is considered by most to be the first end user friendly version of XBMC for Android to date. This version contains all the bells and whistles that you look for in any XBMC configuration, all preconfigured for your enjoyment.

Some of the many improvements that they’ve made to this release include support for an external video player, which is key since without it, XBMC does not yet support hardware accelerated video decoding on most Android devices. It can now be used on pretty much any Android device without experiencing choppy video playback or anything of the sort, and works just as well as it does on your computer. They’ve also bundled in some of the most popular addons as well, so that’s pretty cool too.

ok I am just abit confused, I have a G-Box midnight set top box. How do I know if this is a neon or non neon device?

    • silkyt says:

Based on CPU – l A9-MIII Neon Cortex CPU & Mali400 Graphics Processor

I installed on G-Box 2.2 and plugins work but streaming from NAS is choppy. I enabled HW Decoding in MX and still get same results with modest improvement. Anything else I should look at?

All of you should be very proud of the monumental achievement that XBMC represents as a new media system alternative for viewing and enjoying media. My congratulations to all of you who worked and continue to work so very hard on what I truly see as the future of television and media presentation.

Thanks for the update. But this is no better the what i was in (except it looks nice).

All the links in SPORTSDEVIL say “External player active” “click ok when playback has ended”.
    Then does nothing.
I have the Cyclone nano slim+ I am using the neon version of XBMC.
    Any help please

This isn’t really a fix per say but this is what I did to watch live sports I installed adobe flash player and adblock + from the play store then I went to firstrowsports with the android browser app (adblock and chrome seemed to have issues) and played the live streams as per normal like you would on say a pc it works perfect.

This wont play audio through my receiver. I have to have it directly plugged in to my TV. Rather, the entire pivos device doesn’t seem to play audio through my receiver. What a bummer. Still, this is awesome. Thanks

  5. flytrap says:

For GS 3 users use the non-neon download and MX player. It works perfectly.

  6. stjackson123 says:

    Thanks for this, works great.

How do you uninstall this? I installed on my phone and now it always boots to XMBC. Can’t get to the Android home screen now. When I exit XMBC, it relaunches XBMC again. I read on the Wiki that we need to delete the userdata folder, however I can’t get to a file browser app.

Or is there a way to have XBMC not relaunch when exited?

    Stuck now, please help. Thanks.

    • bigchocdad says:

      Hi stjackson
      How i solved that is…
      1) minimize xbmc by pressing the switch app android button at the bottom right
      2) Pulldown the settings panel and go into settings.
      3) Scroll down to ‘Apps’ and select it.
      4) Scroll down to xbmc in the list and ‘Force stop’
      5) In the same panel select Uninstall.

Should be good to go now.

P.S. If you choose to install it again, remember that when the Launcher & xbmc run dialog comes up, remember yo choose Launcher and select always. Then you can run xbmc as normal. k.
