You can install a version of linux on the xbox (xdsl = xbox damn small linux) and xphazer recently released a pretty good version which you can find over at xbmc4xbox.org forums - just search for xdsl. If you want to do a bit of browsing and other basic linux stuff then try it out but installing the linux version of xbmc on it won't work. XBMC4Xbox is designed and optimised specifically for xbox so you won't find a better version of xbmc for xbox anywhere else. If you could run linux xbmc through xdsl it would be painfully slow but I don't think it's even possible to run as the correct codecs and drivers wouldn't be installed.
