Thanks but that link tells me nothing, you see I just wondered what peoples opinions were for best settings to help with buffering/streams cutting out.
Some people say set cache to >0< , others say high numbers.
As for adjusting the max buffer on your ATV, you need to browse to the XBMC application folder using SSH and browsing the HD on your ATV... XBMC/userdata/advancedsettings.xml
Download this to your comp and open with a text editor. Edit where it shows you the network tags the buffer size manually.
<network> <autodetectpingtime>30</autodetectpingtime> <!-- Length in seconds between pinging the network to detect new devices --> <curlclienttimeout>10</curlclienttimeout> <!-- Timeout in seconds for libcurl (http/ftp) connections --> <curllowspeedtime>5</curllowspeedtime> <!-- Time in seconds for libcurl to consider a connection lowspeed --> <httpproxyusername></httpproxyusername> <!-- username for Basic Proxy Authentication --> <httpproxypassword></httpproxypassword> <!-- password for Basic Proxy Authentication --> <cachemembuffersize>5242880</cachemembuffersize> <!-- number of bytes used for buffering streams ahead in memory XBMC will not buffer ahead more than this. WARNING: for the bytes set here, XBMC will consume 3x the amount of RAM --> </network>
If you go above cachemembuffersize of 5242880 (or 4mb in bytes) then as noted 3 times the amount of ram will be used for XBMC. Reupload it afterward to overwrite the old advancedsettings.xml and reboot XBMC and try buffering again.
Big thanks, so xbmc can go above the noted buffer but will use 3x the ram correct?
Will test and see what happens! Thanks again..
Edit...
When I watch videos (using 1channel) they just stop after a while and return to menu, would any of the above help this, or is it normal or just my connection?

Yes. I have done this on my machine and it is awesome. If you do a search for buffering in the iceFilms or 1channel threads you will find a lot of great content on this topic. Let me know how it works out for you!
No idea lol, I've never had a problem with it. I would think it's pretty connection specific. I was just clarifying how the setting relates to the situation he mentioned
